I made this chess board in fond memory of my grandfather, who used to play chess with me every single day. Even though I didn’t know a single move or piece, he used to play and purposefully make me win, which would make me feel that I am on top of the world. Today when he is no more, I yearn for that feeling of childlike victory and his pure love.
Hence, as a tribute to one of my fondest memories, I’ve used nuts and bolts to make the base as well as the chess pieces. Additionally, there is space inside it to store the pieces when not being used.
